The future that doesn’t work…Microwave society…An all-or-nothing attitude…
We are not poor relations...We have much to offer, recognizing that we have much to receive in return...
For Marx, that gap between the messy reality of culture and politics, and the rational unfolding of the revolution's impersonal logic, was a merely temporary aberration. But is it not a recurring, if not permanent, feature of modern life?
Neo-Marxists continue to see control of the economy as the real source of power in modern society...They expand the contours of class struggle to enlarge Marx’s proletariat to include oppressed racial and ethnic groups, women, the homeless, and the poor...
Political Democracy is not enough...that is at best an instrument for the achievement of economic and social democracy...that is to say a society in which no person has too little and no one too much...There exists no longer any excuse for too little food and clothing for anyone, or inadequate medical and hospital care, or poor shelter in unsatisfactory neighborhoods...
The relationship between politicians and activists on the one hand, and intellectuals and academics on the other, has invariably been framed by mutual mistrust, bordering on hostility... Intellectuals complain that politicians aren't interested in ideas, while politicians protest that intellectuals aren't interested in reality. As many scholars and observers indicated, politicians don’t think…intellectuals don’t act…The former live only for today, the latter simply dream of utopia…Never the two shall meet…
We need to develop joint governance forms so as to challenge the hegemonic values of our individualist consumer society with models of the active, productive, impaired participation of people working together for shared ideas…It will take both will and vision to get there…
Behaviour is most humane and civil when it is based on knowledge and reason…
Sending messages to a time we will not see…
